Apple is set to bolster its domestic semiconductor production through a substantial new partnership with Broadcom, committing more than $30 billion to manufacture over 15 billion chips within the United States. This strategic investment aims to enhance Apple’s American supply chain and is part of the tech giant’s long-term vision to establish a U.S.-based chip ecosystem, spanning from design to manufacturing. The initiative is expected to create hundreds of jobs and boost the production of advanced wireless technologies integral to Apple devices.
Under the terms of the agreement, Broadcom will allocate $1.5 billion to upgrade and expand its manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado. This facility will focus on producing advanced radio frequency (RF) components, such as FBAR filters, which are critical for improving wireless performance and connectivity in Apple products. By investing in these advanced components, Apple aims to meet the high-performance and wireless capability expectations of its customers.
Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the company’s enduring dedication to American manufacturing and innovation. He highlighted the importance of the components produced in Colorado in delivering the technological excellence that Apple devices are known for. Cook also expressed pride in Apple’s increasing investment in U.S.-based suppliers who specialize in cutting-edge technology and high-quality manufacturing.
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm for the strengthened partnership. He noted that Broadcom shares Apple’s commitment to reinforcing American innovation and manufacturing capabilities. This collaboration forms part of Apple’s previously announced $600 billion U.S. investment plan, which also includes expanding manufacturing capacity, developing AI server facilities in Texas, and creating more high-skilled jobs nationwide.
