Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million, to launch its largest logistics center in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza. This state-of-the-art facility spans over 83,000 square meters and is set to enhance the retailer’s supply capabilities by serving around 70 stores across Hungary.
The new logistics hub is a major boost to local employment, having already created over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. This facility boasts 194 loading docks and includes a substantial 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, reinforcing Lidl’s commitment to efficient and expansive operations.
Energy efficiency is a key feature of the new center, which is equipped with a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation. Additionally, innovative technology allows the recycling of waste heat from the refrigeration system to provide underfloor heating, demonstrating Lidl’s dedication to sustainable practices.
Surrounding the logistics center is a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity, further showcasing the retailer’s environmental considerations. The center is poised to become a pivotal component of Lidl’s nationwide distribution network, with an impressive 4,500 pallets of goods anticipated to be dispatched from the facility each day.
With a current network of 220 stores in Hungary, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products domestically, and this new logistics center is expected to bolster its expansion and fortify its operations within the country. This development signifies an important step in Lidl’s strategy to enhance its supply chain and retail footprint in Hungary.
